Journal articles:

‘Disposable labour, passive victim, active threat: Migrant/non-migrant othering in three British television documentaries’ was published in the European Journal of Cultural Studies in December 2016, the text of the final version accepted by the journal is available here and the final published version is available here.

‘Opportunities and Limitations for Collective Resistance Arising from Volunteering by Asylum Seekers and Refugees in Northern England’, was published in Critical Sociology in June 2014, the text of the final version accepted by the journal is available here and the final published version is available here.

‘Developing an Independent Anti-Racist Model for Asylum Rights Organizing in England‘, was published in the Ethnic & Racial Studies journal in November 2012, an earlier version is available free here and the final published version is available here if you or your institution has a subscription to the journal. ‘Addressing ethnicity in social care research’, co-authored with Professors Gary Craig and Karl Atkin, was published in the Social Policy & Administration journal in May 2012. ‘New migrants’ in the North East workforce: final report, presents findings of a three-year programme of research funded by the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust that concluded in 2016 and is available here.

‘Academics speak out against the UK Immigration Bill’, published on Open Democracy and available here.

‘Exiled from the Big Society’ is a magazine article on the early impact of funding cuts on refugee organisations that I co-authored with David Bates. It was published in the Runnymede Bulletin September 2012, available free here.

‘Research with black and minority ethnic people using social care services’ is the report of a methods review commissioned by the NIHR School for Social Care Research, which I co-authored with Professors Gary Craig and Karl Atkin. It is available free to download here.

My PhD thesis, ‘The Management of Oppression: Focussing on relations between refugees and the British state in Newcastle upon Tyne’, was submitted in September 2010 and is available free here.
