AGAINST RACISM: Public forum in Newcastle this Saturday – Frances Webber, John Grayson, Raul Ally

This Saturday I’m very happy to be speaking at ‘Against Racism’, a public forum in Newcastle that is being organised by Tyneside Community Action against Racism (TCAR).

It’s been quite some time since there was last a meeting this substantial and wide-ranging in Newcastle on the question of racism, probably not since TCAR’s Northern Conference against Racism in 2008, where Arun Kundnani spoke:

As in 2008, there’s a fantastic range of speakers this Saturday, including campaigning immigration barrister, author and deputy-director of the Institute of Race Relations Frances Webber, independent researcher and member of South Yorkshire Migrant Action Group, John Grayson, who’s been doing incredibly important work exposing the terrible conditions for asylum seekers in housing provided by G4S, Raul Ally, who was imprisoned in Morton Hall for several months last summer and has been fighting to improve the position of asylum seekers and refugees ever since, a representative of Hands Off Somalia speaking about the links between British foreign policy and the treatment of migrants in Britain, and Toby Harbertson from Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism!, who took part in a programme with the Israeli Committee against House Demolitions in 2011, speaking about British support for Israel and the racism of the Israeli state.

I hope you can join us there.
